***DAY #6: SCHUMER SHUTDOWN*** Congressman Patronis: If Our Military isn’t Being Paid, Congress Shouldn’t Either

October 6, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jimmy Patronis formally requested that his pay be withheld due to the government shutdown caused by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democrats who have still refused to work with Congressional Republicans to pass a clean Continuing Resolution (CR). The Democrats have previously voted on 13 times. On October 10, federal workers will receive a reduced paycheck due to the Schumer Shutdown. Should the Schumer Shutdown continue until the next pay day on October 24, federal workers will not receive a paycheck until the federal government is reopened. Active duty servicemembers are paid twice per month, the first being scheduled for October 15. Should the federal government not reopen by then, servicemembers will not be paid. Also, in response to the Schumer Shutdown, Congressman Patronis has co-sponsored a bill with Rep. Ralph Norman (R -SC) that would hold Congress accountable for government shutdowns and prevent members from receiving compensation during a shutdown.

Congressman Jimmy Patronis said, “Senator Schumer and the Democrats are asking our servicemembers to put their lives on the line without getting paid — and that’s disgraceful. These are moms, dads, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters who are asked to work 24/7/365, missing birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions while defending our freedom. The idea that they’ll be asked to do it without a paycheck is unacceptable. That’s why I’ve formally requested that my pay be withheld until this shutdown ends. If our troops can go without a paycheck because of Washington dysfunction, then so can we. It’s time for Schumer and the Democrats to stop playing politics with the livelihoods of America’s heroes and get the government back open. I’m a big believer that if you don’t hold your elected officials accountable, you get the government you deserve. That’s why I’m proud to co-sponsor a bill with Congressman Ralph Norman to prohibit members of Congress from receiving compensation during a government shutdown. Enough is enough. The American people deserve better.

“If you are still in need of federal assistance, my office remains open and continues to serve constituents. If you’re being affected by the Schumer Shutdown, I encourage you to call Chuck Schumer’s office at (202) 224-6542.”
