***DAY #2: SCHUMER SHUTDOWN*** Congressman Patronis: Schumer Wants Law Enforcement and Military Servicemembers to Work without Pay

October 2, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jimmy Patronis announced more impacts to law enforcement and military servicemembers throughout Northwest Florida and the country. On day two of the Schumer Shutdown, the Democrats and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have still refused to work with Congressional Republicans to pass a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) and end the government shutdown. While Congressman Patronis and Republican leadership continue to put America’s Armed Forces and law enforcement first, Democrats are still demanding $1.5 trillion in additional spending that wastes YOUR money to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants, climate initiatives in foreign countries, and radical radio programs.

Congressman Jimmy Patronis said, “It’s now day two of the Schumer Shutdown, and our servicemembers and law enforcement officers in Northwest Florida and around the country are already feeling the consequences of the Schumer Shutdown. Our heroes in uniform are being asked to protect this nation without pay — all because Chuck Schumer and the Democrats want to funnel taxpayer dollars into healthcare for illegal immigrants. It’s disgusting. These men and women put their lives on the line for us 24/7/365, and instead of standing with them, Schumer is playing politics to appease his radical base. Florida families shouldn’t have to suffer so Democrats in Washington can boost their profiles and push reckless spending. I stand with our military families and law enforcement, and I’ll keep fighting to make sure they get the support and respect they deserve.

“Despite the impacts of the Schumer Shutdown, my office will remain open and continue serving constituents, though some casework may face delays due to agency furloughs. If you’re being affected, I encourage you to call Chuck Schumer’s office at (202) 224-6542and let him know that enough is enough.”

Impacts to Law Enforcement and Military Servicemembers include:

  • Military men and women going unpaid.
  • Civilian contractors and military personnel being furloughed.
  • Law enforcement putting their lives on the line, unpaid.
  • VA service delays.
  • Risks to transportation for veterans and their families.
