***DAY #10: SCHUMER SHUTDOWN*** Congressman Patronis: Military Servicemembers Won’t be Paid on October 15
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jimmy Patronis issued a statement condemning Senate Democrats and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Day #10 of the Schumer Shutdown for keeping the government closed and putting the livelihoods of active-duty service members and federal workers in jeopardy. The House of Representatives sent a 24-page Continuing Resolution (CR) to the Senate to keep the government funded on September 19; however, Senate Democrats have blocked its passage. Today, federal workers will receive a reduced paycheck due to the Schumer Shutdown. With the Senate not reconvening until Tuesday, October 14, paychecks that military personnel would have received on October 15 will not be issued on time, leaving thousands of Florida families in limbo.
Congressman Jimmy Patronis said, “Our troops don’t get to clock out during a shutdown, and they shouldn’t have to worry about whether their families can pay the bills. Senator Schumer’s political games are now threatening the livelihoods of the men and women who defend this country and keep it running. They deserve better than this. Northwest Florida is home to Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, NAS Pensacola, NAS Whiting Field, Duke Field, and Corry Station, which is also home to thousands of military families who have already sacrificed enough. Senator Schumer, who has clearly spent far too long in Congress, needs to reopen the government and stop holding our troops hostage for his political agenda. It’s time to stop the games, pass a clean CR, and put the safety and prosperity of our citizens first. If you’re being affected by the Schumer Shutdown, I encourage you to call Senator Schumer’s office at (202) 224-6542.”
