Congressman Patronis Urges Democrats to Pass DHS Funding Amid Military Strikes in Iran
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following Saturday’s U.S.-led military operation that killed Iran’s supreme leader and several senior officials, Congressman Patronis praised President Trump and called on Senate Democrats to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security to protect the homeland. During this moment of heightened global tension, Congress faces a clear choice, move swiftly to protect our country or risk the safety of the American people.
The operation, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, marked the most significant U.S. military engagement involving Iran in decades and, according to administration officials, targeted high-level leadership responsible for directing terror operations.
“The United States demonstrated unmistakable strength with decisive military action against Iran. For decades, the Iranian regime has been an adversary of America while oppressing its own people. Under the leadership of President Trump, Secretary Rubio and Secretary Hegseth, the message is clear,” said Congressman Patronis. “America will defend its interests, its allies, and global stability. This is peace through strength in action.”
In the wake of these actions, and evolving security threats, Congressman Patronis is urging Democrats in Congress to immediately pass full funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stressing that protecting the homeland must remain a bipartisan priority. Congressman Patronis continued, “For four years, President Biden was asleep at the wheel, leading by autopen while enabling one of the worst border crises in American history. With growing national security threats abroad, we cannot afford weakness at home. That’s why Senate Democrats must work to finish what House Republicans started and fully fund the Department of Homeland Security, the agency on the front lines of counterterrorism, border enforcement, and protecting the American people. The safety of the American people should never be used as a political bargaining chip.”
The Senate remains in gridlock over a House-passed bill to reopen and fund DHS, an agency responsible for TSA, ICE, Border Patrol, the Coast Guard, and the Secret Service. Amid the 2026 funding lapse, furloughs, missed paychecks, flight disruptions, and the temporary suspension of Global Entry spark concerns at home and abroad.
