Congressman Patronis Secures Commitment from Coast Guard to Restore Navigational Capabilities in East Pass

January 9, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Patronis expresses his appreciation to the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard for committing to the replacement of critical Aids to Navigation (ATONs) in Destin’s gateway to the Gulf of America. East Pass, which sees extensive vessel traffic and serves as a crucial economic engine for the region.

The waters surrounding Destin are among the most trafficked in the area, supporting commercial fishing, tourism, recreational boating, and maritime commerce. Reliable navigation aids are vital to avoiding accidents, protecting lives, and supporting the economy.

“These ATONs are essential to the safety of our mariners, first responders, and the residents and visitors who rely on our waterways every day,” said Congressman Patronis. “I am grateful to the Commandant for recognizing the importance of this issue and the men and women of the Coast Guard who protect our borders. This decision reflects strong leadership and a clear understanding of the needs of Northwest Florida’s coastal communities.”

“I was proud to work with Congressman Patronis to ensure our safety and security are always protected,” said Okaloosa County Commissioner Drew Palmer. “These ATONs are an essential component of our visitors, servicemembers, and community. We also thank the leadership of the U.S. Coast Guard for their continued commitment to maritime safety.”

Following this commitment, the Coast Guard plans to award a contract to replace the infrastructure in 2026. Congressman Patronis will continue to follow the development and to keep his constituents informed of the timeline for replacement.

On December 2, 2025, Congressman Patronis requested the commitment to restore the ATONs. Read the full letter HERE.
