Congressman Patronis Applauds Passage of $580B Transportation and Infrastructure Package
~Leads Effort to Cut Red Tape for Car Haulers~
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Late Thursday evening, Congressman Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) praised the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for passing the BUILD America 250 Act, a five-year, $580 billion surface transportation bill to modernize America’s infrastructure. Congressman Patronis serves as a member of Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
“This is a huge win for the people of Northwest Florida,” said Congressman Patronis. “This committee plays a critical role in investing in our nation’s roadways, bridges, and railways. It’s truly an honor to be part of that effort in Congress.”
The legislation includes key investments and reforms:
- $580 billion over five years for roads, bridges, transit, rail, and highway safety
- $9 billion per year for critical bridge repairs and upgrades
- Streamlined permitting and faster DOT environmental reviews to cut red tape
Included in the legislation is a priority amendment by Congressman Patronis that cuts outdated red tape and improves efficiency for auto haulers. Currently, car haulers are constrained by outdated weight limits that no longer reflect today’s larger, heavier vehicles, limiting the efficient movement of vehicles across the country.
Congressman Patronis continued, “This is about common sense. Washington’s outdated rules are slowing down American business and driving up costs. Vehicles are heavier today due to EV and hybrid technologies, but weight limits haven’t kept up. That means more trucks on the road and higher costs for consumers, which is dumb and has to change.”
H.R. 8870, the BUILD America 250 Act, passed the committee by a bipartisan vote of 61–2 and now advances to the House floor for consideration before moving to the Senate.
