Congressman Patronis Applauds Landmark Supreme Court Victory Defending Gun Rights

June 25, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Congressman Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) applauded the U.S. Supreme Court's decision protecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.

The Supreme Court ruled 6–3 in Wolford v. Lopez, striking down a Hawaii law that forced concealed carry permit holders to get government permission before carrying on private property open to the public. The Court made clear that the Second Amendment is a right afforded to all Americans, and the government cannot put up unnecessary barriers that limit the right to bear arms.

"Today's ruling is a major victory for the Second Amendment and sends a clear message that the Constitution isn't selective," said Congressman Jimmy Patronis. “I’ve always believed the right to bear arms shouldn't come with conditions and be limited by woke regulations that undermine our freedoms. This decision reaffirms that the right to keep and bear arms is not a second class right and must be protected just like every other freedom guaranteed by our Constitution."

Congressman Patronis has been a long defender of the Second Amendment and has recently filed H.R. 9009 the Firearm Freedom Act. The legislation seeks to eliminate the 1986 Hughes Amendment, which banned the purchase, ownership, and transfer of machine guns. This is the first time legislation has been introduced to fully repeal the provision.
